This Celestron Omni 2x Barlow Lens magnifies your view through the telescope by 2x, providing more up-close views of celestial objects. One problem that you'll see when utilizing Barlow lenses is that the amount of available light is reduced. This problem is even more pronounced on low-end Barlow lenses, such as those included with telescopes and accessory kits. The Omni Barlow Lens provides a much higher quality picture, and shows increased light transmission over bargain lenses. The additional light transmission can be attributed to a flat black interior, as well as higher quality optics than most entry-level barlow lenses.
During a midsummer night gazing at Saturn, we utilized a Celestron Astomaster 114 EQ with a 10mm eyepiece and the Astromaster Accessory Kit's included 2x Barlow, for a resulting magnification of 200x. The picture was good, but when we switched to the Celestron Omni 2x Barlow Lens, we noticed an increase in light transmission, as well as a clearer view, which made for a much more pleasing sight. The rings of Saturn were clearly distinguishable from the planet itself, and the image appeared sharper after some careful tweaking of the focus adjustment. We also saw better results when viewing M4 (a globular cluster in Scorpius) and M13 (the Great Globular Cluster).
After that test, we decided to keep a Celestron Omni Barlow lens in our field kit. Deep sky objects appear clearer and brighter, and focusing seems to be much easier. Our results are pretty positive. We definitely recommend the Celestron Omni 2x Barlow Lens for your kit.
