The CanyonView ED is one of Meade's first real offerings in the world of affordable ED glass binoculars, and it looks like they took some lessons learned from other manufacturers to get a good start. They put a little extra effort into the box, which is more than just a vessel for retail display, it's something you'll likely actually use. It's got a magnetic closure and a space for your manual and sales receipt.
Accessories are what you'd expect, maybe a little more. A carrying case is the first thing you see when you open the box, which clips into the harness. It's nice to get both a padded neck strap and a four point harness at no extra cost. Rainguard and lens caps are rubber and fit snugly, so no fear of water or debris intrustion onto the lenses.
The design is one you've probably seen before if you've paid attention to binocular style in the last decade or so. It's not unusual for many different manufacturers to share the same body style, because a lot of the components are sourced from a small pool of manufacturers. So if not for the large embossed MEADE on the binocular, you might mistake it for another brand. The body's rubber armor has texture in all the right places for grip, and two molded thumb recesses on the bottom for comfort.
Eye cups are three position, and have that "just right" amount of resistance without being too tight. Certainly not wobbly or loose. Diopter adjustment is firm and smooth with plenty of range. The focus knob is similar, and it can easily be operated with a single finger. Everything just feels right, it's almost like the CanyonView ED fits like a comfortable t-shirt.
We get tired of saying the same things over and over again about optical quality (chromatic aberration, sharpness, etc.), so without going into too much detail, we like what we see. Crisp, clear images and a great view for under $200. You won't be disappointed.
Enjoy superior contrast and high-resolution images, while removing chromatic aberration with Meade’s ED Glass. High-quality multilayer coatings are applied to the lenses and BAK-4 prisms for maximum light transmission. This series brings the best balance of high-level performance and value.
INNOVATIVE LENS SYSTEM
Meade’s CanyonView ED Series brings the best balance of high-level performance and value. These binoculars include extra-low dispersion (ED) glass, fully multi-coated optics, and BAK-4 prisms with Dielectric & Phase coated optics that deliver sharpness and clarity with exceptional light transmission. Meade's ED glass corrects chromatic abberations for maximum true-to-life image quality. Fully multi-coatings are applied to the lenses and BaK-4 prisms to enhance light transmission; provides a brighter and higher contrast view.

With portability in mind, carrying your binoculars and accessories has never been eaiser. This Series is a must-have for birders and observers wanting ideal optics that deliver with every use.
