Scope bases and scope mounts provide a solid point of attachment for the rings that hold your rifle scope in place. Scope bases are commonly available in either steel or aluminum. Aluminum is lighter and more inexpensive, while steel is tougher and heavier. A light weight rifle with smaller caliber is a good platform for aluminum bases. If your have a large caliber rifle that generates a lot of recoil, you may want to consider steel over aluminum. Depending on rifle, you may need a one piece base or two separate bases.
