Minox BL 8x33 Binocular Review

Construction on this unit is commendable.  The four position eyecups lock into place well, and we found them to be very comfortable, and a lot more so than comparable models.  The BL 8x33 feels hefty, without being too heavy - they tip the scale at about 20 oz (570 g).  The rubber armor on this model is more or less identical to the rubber armor found on the APO HG series.  The body hinge is tight without too much resistance, and holds its position exactly as it's adjusted.  The focus knob is fantastic - virtually no resistance, yet somehow manages to be precise with zero extra play.

Aesthetically, the open bridge design is extremely comfortable.  The fingers of the non-focusing hand tend to rest on the bridge itself when viewing two handed, but the BL 8x33 can easily be held and adjusted with a single hand if desired.  The hand seems to grasp the binocular naturally when casually picked up.  The 8x33 includes quality objective lens caps (a very important feature), a rain cover, a neoprene strap, and lens cleaning cloth.

Close focus down to about 5 feet and the image is crystal clear.  There is minimal chromatic aberration, we had to look for it in order to notice it.

The binoculars of the BL series are of a particularly light-weight design, this also being indicated by the letter "L" in the product name. Additional highlights of the BL series are its ergonomic features and the rubber armored body of polycabonate that is extremely robust and weather-resistant.

The MINOX BL 8x33 also features a specially developed sealing technology that makes it watertight to a depth of down to five meters. Thanks to a nitrogen gas filling, there is no fogging of the optical surfaces, even under severe temperature fluctuations and a clear view is guaranteed at all times.

A high-quality optical system with multicoated lens elements provides superb light-gathering power and images with an exceptionally neutral color rendition of the objects in view. Thanks to the roof prisms with phase-correction coating, the user is presented an image with high clarity and pin-sharp contrast, even in bad lighting.

The individual requirements of people wearing eyeglasses are also fully accounted for. With the extended eye relief, the entire field of view can be enjoyed without vignetting, even if wearing spectacles. Twisting retractable rubber eyecups with individual click stops are another convenient feature of all MINOX BL binoculars.
